Shaughnessy/Shipton-Smith take creating work together to another level by subtly entering into each other’s space in their series titled Merged. The two artists blur the limitations of individual identity by producing ‘dual’ self-portraits. These internally fragmented images show a sense of intimacy while continuing to allude to the discord that runs throughout their work. A sense of secrecy hovers, laced with delicate eeriness. In Merged the two artists continue to explore the tension between communicating as one voice while simultaneously holding on to their own identities, encouraging new interpretations to prosper between them.
