My video installation, Gestation, gives the viewer a chance to engage with an empathy sack highlighting some of the weight women carry during the nine months of pregnancy while hearing the changes both the body and the mind experience during that time. This is interlaced with quotes that showcase how a woman is expected to feel addressing preconceived notions our society places on women as they enter into motherhood.
Women on average should gain 25-35 pregnancy pounds. This empathy sack represents half the recommended weight gain for an average pregnancy.
